Crafting @ Board & Brush
We love being outside and enjoying the mountains, but with the weather getting colder, indoor activities are a must! That’s why we were so excited to find Board & Brush, a wood sign workshop to satisfy all your DIY dreams. We first heard about this concept in Austin, TX, and were SO excited to see that it's now in Boulder. We knew we had to check it out!
Let us start by saying the finished product looks like something you would pay big bucks for. First, you get to choose your own project from over 100 customizable designs. They even have options for every holiday! We had such a hard time making a decision...but once that is accomplished, the hardest part is over.
When we arrived to the store, we were set up at our own stations with project supplies already laid out. You start with unfinished wood and distress it with hammers to give it that “old barn wood” look. Then, you choose your stain (light, medium, dark, or gray). Oh, and we forgot the best part: it’s BYOB and snacks! We brought our canned wine, which was perfect because it got a little wild with the hammering.
We had way too much fun with the next step, which involved attaching our wood boards together with power tools. Just a few screws and voila! It’s starting to look like a sign and is ready to be painted.
The final step is placing your custom stencil on your wood and painting (again, tons of color choices). We even saw someone in our class do a really cool ombré colored sign.
Here we are with our finished products. The total cost of the class is $65 and it takes about 3 hours. We felt the finished product + the experience was totally worth that. Seriously, we both agreed we would have paid a pretty penny for these signs, so how cool is it that we got to make them ourselves? We had a great time in the class and were already planning our next project before we were finished with these ones! Let us know if you make it into Board & Brush. We’d love to hear what you think!
FYI: Board & Brush is in a little strip mall in the heart of town at the corner of Folsom St and Goss St. It is a little tough to find as they don’t have a sign up, but their logo is posted in the windows.
