Hotel Boulderado
Ah, the beautiful Hotel Boulderado. Most of you have probably seen it in downtown Boulder, but are you familiar with it’s history? We sure weren’t until our recent stay last week! We dined at Spruce, spent the night in a Historic King Suite, and took a tour of the hotel the next morning. Everything from the delicious food to the friendly staff had us wanting to stay longer!
Our Room
We stayed in a Historic King Suite. The room was filled with traditional Victorian furniture and decor, and it really felt like you were stepping back in time. If you have an appreciation of history, this is perfect for you! Our room had a king bed and then a separate sitting area with a pullout couch. There was a bonus sink and mirror in the sitting area, which was a game-changer for getting ready in the morning. The room was drenched in natural light from all of the windows, which gave us a beautiful view of the Flatirons! We unfortunately did not bring our pups, but it is good to know dogs are welcome as long as they aren’t left unattended. They also have some more modern rooms available, but this one was located in the Historic wing!
The Hotel
We got to take a historical tour of the hotel, which was one of our favorite parts of our stay. The hotel was built in 1909 and still boasts many of the original features, like the super cool Otis elevator that is operated by an attendant! The amazing stained glass ceiling was made as a replica of the original, which was damaged when a portion of the roof fell in the 1950’s. They have it decked out for the holidays right now, with a stunning REAL 28 foot tree in the lobby. It makes the view from the grand staircase even more grand! We highly recommend going on one of the free historical tours during your stay. And, even if you don’t stay in the hotel, at least check out the holiday decor and grab a cocktail.
Spruce Farm & Fish
Dinner time! The Hotel Boulderado has three restaurants: the Corner Bar, License No 1, and Spruce Farm & Fish. Spruce prides themselves on showcasing the best this region has to offer. You will never tire of the menu, as the chef adds creative, new dishes seasonally. We took the recommendation of our waiter and ordered the Burnt Orange Old Fashioned and Green Giant, both lovely and refreshing. We recommend starting with the Mediterranean Plate — it’s a delicious assortment of carrot hummus (wow), naan, and grilled veggies. It’s light and healthy, so you won’t be too full for dinner. The Yellowfish Tuna was another winner. It’s served over a bed of mushrooms, bok choy, and miso broth. We left feeling full and happy yet not sluggish and that is really the best kind of restaurant.
We loved everything about our stay at the Boulderado, and we definitely see why it’s such an attraction for locals and visitors alike! The history alone is enough reason to visit, but the cozy decor, the great service and dining options will make you want to stay!
